About me
My name is Nitasha Mathayas (Ni-TAH-sha Ma-THA-yus) and I go by the pronouns she/her. I am currently based in Illinois, where I am an Education Researcher and K-12 Science expert designing innovative learning experiences that merge technology, movement, and scientific thinking. My educational journey culminated in a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
As a science educator and Learning Scientist, my work focuses on making science more accessible and engaging for children. I bring valuable experience as a former classroom teacher and curriculum developer for K-12 science programs. My research explores innovative approaches to science education, particularly how children use body movements and gestures in scientific modeling. I’m especially interested in using Mixed Reality technology to create interactive learning spaces.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my toddler. I like reading science fiction, especially the thought-provoking writings of Ted Chiang, or watching a good show—loving Murder Bot right now. I also enjoy watching K-dramas, the perfect blend of pretty visuals with heartwarming storylines, while tying my anxiety into physical knots with some macramé or attempting to make sense of life with a puzzle.
Let’s Connect
I believe in the power of collaboration and meaningful connections. Whether you’re an educator, researcher, student, or industry professional, I look forward to exploring how we might work together to create impact in education and beyond.
